Inquiry Assignment

 

Our major assignment of the semseter was to come up with a question from a discourse community that we are in or interested in and then to answer the question.  The question we came just is what is America the best at?  Sounds easy but it wasn't.  We had to have a clear and consice contribution to the discourse community of choice, a clear audience, and certain page length.  At first me and other two classmates tried to figure out what we want to talk about since there are so many aspects that America is great at.  So we decided to focus on education, more specifically the free public eduacation system and its pros and cons.  From there we decided each to take on a certain part of the public education system.  From there we figured how we were going to write it and here is the first draft:

 

 

 

 

 

 

As you probably read, we each, in a group of three, tackled three different topics within our paper.  Thinking that it was good we submitted it and when we sat down with our teacher she said our contribution was to broad and that we needed to focus on one contribution instead of three.  So after going back to the drawing boards, we focused in area of teacher salaries and student performance.  We finally came up with the question if you increase a teacher's salary, will student's performance increase?  Here is our second and final draft (second draft was shorter than final draft):
